We're honored to have an email interview with the developer of Stranded: Alien Dawn, Haemimont Games, to talk about their early access title, as well as the latest major update they have dropped.

1. Which games, would you say, inspired Stranded: Alien Dawn?

HG: Here at Haemimont Games we wanted to make a system-driven survival sandbox game for quite some time. While Surviving Mars has some survival elements to it, and we wanted to build upon what we learned. There are fans of both survival and system-driven games in our creative team, so Stranded: Alien Dawn was the next logical step for us. A lot of games influenced our vision of the game, including Rimworld, Banished, and Factorio. Other forms of entertainment also influenced the team, such as Neal Stephenson’s Seveneves and Ridley Scott’s Raised by Wolves, among other influences.

2. As with many players, we are eager to see the development roadmap for Stranded: Alien Dawn. Any idea when that’ll be unveiled? If not, perhaps there are some clues as to what players can expect in the coming months, prior to release?

Tame and Train update

HG: We introduces our second major update in the second half of January, bringing animal taming and training. Although we don’t have specifics to share just yet, early access players can look forward to more exciting updates in the coming months!

3. Do you have any plans to further expand the Tame & Train update? We are eager to see more use for domesticated animals in the game, such as mounts for travel or battle, or more importantly, as beasts of burden to help haul resources.

HG: We are constantly monitoring players’ feedback on the recently released content and their overall experience of Stranded: Alien Dawn during early access. While we have nothing to share in terms of expanding the Tame and Train update, we are working towards improving the game and there is certainly more to come.

4. After the release of the Dessert biome, many players are hoping to see more new biomes as well. Are there more biomes planned for the future, either as paid DLCs after release or as free updates?

HG: We don’t have anything to announce regarding new biomes or DLC. The team are currently focused on delivering an amazing experience for players in early access. Players will have to watch this space for more details on future early access updates!

5. Stranded: Alien Dawn has been compared plenty of times to Rimworld, with some going as far as to call it “3D Rimworld”. As flattering as this may be, I’m sure, do you think this comparison gives the players some amount of expectation – along with some possibly unrealistic ones - that the team may feel pressured to live up to?

HG: Thank you for this question. It is inspiring to hear Stranded: Alien Dawn described as “3D Rimworld”, but this comparison does indeed come with a twist. Rimworld is an amazing game, which works its magic well in that the border between what is happening on screen and what is happening in the players head is obvious and clear. Its 2D visual style helps a lot in this regard, and communicates this in a superb way. Stranded: Alien Dawn, with its realistic 3D visuals, poses a significant challenge when it comes to communicating this specific element to the player, and this is something we’ve worked hard during development to achieve. We are really happy to see that players’ responses are so positive. And you can get awesome screenshots from Stranded: Alien Dawn.

6. Will Stranded: Alien Dawn have full or partial mod support? As pointed out by many players, the game is currently protected by Denuvo Anti-Tamper, so at the moment at least, full modding doesn’t seem possible.

HG: We have nothing to announce regarding mod support.

7. There are plenty of picturesque locations and cool creatures in the game, but the game doesn’t have a proper Photo mode. Is that a feature that’s currently in the pipeline?

HG: We are constantly looking at what our community of early access players would like to see, so while we have nothing to share regarding a photo mode just now, players can visit our page on Steam or the Stranded: Alien Dawn Discord server to get the latest updates and share their feedback.

8. Thanks a lot for answering our questions! Is there anything else you’d like to add?

HG: We’d like to encourage WWGDB readers to check out Stranded: Alien Dawn in early access now via Steam, to try out the Tame and Train Update, and let us know how they find the game. This will only help us to make it even better!
