Fight demons, orcs and much more as you battle your way to stop the Dominion from taking over the world. Gameplay

With the briefest of introductions you are straight into the action. Your first character will show you around the game and how to fight, upgrade and recruit through a series of simple quests. The end result is your second hero and an idea of what you need to do next. From there the action begins and there is a lot for you to do in this fun strategy game.

Let us begin with the characters, there are several factors that go into how to obtain and upgrade them. Firstly there are soul fragments available in the game, these can be from special events or found on boss battles. When you have collected enough of these fragments you can make the hero and add them to your collection. If you already have the hero you can evolve them into the next level. This will add a star to the character which increases all of their attributes.

There are also items to be found throughout the game, these are added to a character and increase their stats. When you have a full set of items you can upgrade the quality of the hero, from grey to green, green to blue etc. When you do you unlock their next skill and increase their attributes. Each skill when it is unlocked can have a maximum rank of the level of the hero, and you spend your earned points across all characters.

The battle system is simple, when you have assigned you 5 characters they go off and fight 3 times waves of monsters. Each wave defeated resets the timer and your characters attack automatically. They do have a hero power, which you can either choose to activate yourself or let the game do it as soon as the energy bar is filled. In the harder fights it is much better to control them yourself.

As a reward for completing each battle you have a chance at on or more of the items available, and you will gain xp for your heroes and your main avatar as well as gold. The xp for your avatar counts towards a lot of different aspects of the game, and also increases the maximum level of your heroes. At level 10 you can enter the PvP arena, or level 20 you can send expeditions off for better items.

The PvP system is simple, each day you have 5 free battles, in which you get to increase your rank. When you defeat a player you take over their rank, and they drop down 1 place. You can see their rank and battle rating before each battle and you can pick from 1 of 3 different people to fight. The battles are all on auto attack mode and take place instantly. Each day you will receive rewards based on your rank.

There are 3 main currencies in Hero Wars, Gold, Arena Points and Diamonds. Gold is earned from battles and used on either skills or new characters. The Arena Points are earned form PvP and Diamonds are a premium currency. These can be earned in both quests and battles as well as purchased for real money if you wish.

With a huge range of heroes to collect and upgrade as well as hundreds of monsters to defeat and a massive campaign there is a lot for you to enjoy here. Though some parts of the game are hidden behind timers there are a lot of diamonds from quests to get around them if you need to, or you can wait it out and play more casually. A fun game with a strategy that is both simple and entertaining you have a great little game full of action.

Community

There is a really vibrant community for this game, even though it is relatively new there is an active player base. The ability to form and join guilds is a nice touch and there is a very active facebook page to go with it. This is full of information and there is a constant update to it, helping to boost and promote the sense of belonging in the game.

Graphics/Sound

There is a really nice styling to the game, with a strong fantasy theme. The characters each have a unique look and the out of game graphics for them are amazing. In the game you can easily see what your fighting and the different characters, though there is no real standout look to it it does feel polished.

Conclusion

With Hero Wars you get a nice little game that you can come into and play for a while, and then keep coming back to. Though a few things are gated behind a timer, it is still a fun game. Getting new heroes and upgrading them can be a real challenge and a great motivator. A fun addition to the genre of game with some fun mechanics there is a lot to do here and a lot of people to play with.
