Please note that this game is currently available on Steam Early Access and so may not be complete when you play it. You can wait for the full version or take a look at this current version as you wish.
Gameplay
Black Squad has a nice little tutorial when you begin, that goes through all the main moves, and shows you some of the cool features that the game brings. Here you will learn to move, shoot and use your special class skills. Once you complete the tutorial you are given a set of weapons and sent out into the world to bring destruction to your enemies.
Using the usual WASD movement you navigate the arena and you have a variety of weapon styles: Assault Rifles. Sniper Rifles, Pistols, Melee, SMG’s and Grenades. All of which you can swap in and out between games. You can also create 3 pre set patterns that you pick from at the start of each game.
Each weapon has a set of stats, and the better the weapon the better its stats, but often there is a trade off, damage for range or rate of fire and things like that. Every weapon is available eventually and there are lots of different options for you to enjoy. One of the nice features of the game is that in each battle you can attach a silencer and laser sight for free, each having an effect and it can be very useful to you.
There are 4 character classes in the game, that are usable in some of the game modes, they are: Assault, Support, Command and Recon. Each of these has 4 skills available and you can use them whenever you need to in the game. Though they have a cooldown and your enemy players can also use them. These are powerful effects that can have a huge impact on the game.
There are also several game modes for you to enjoy, beginning with the classic Deathmatch you also have a Demolition game where you need to remove their base. There is also a Destruction mode where you and your enemies try to blow up as many buildings as you can for points. Finally we have the Assasination where 1 team has to protect a target and the other kill it.
There is also the option for you to make or join a Clan, a version of a guild where you can chat to players and take part in clan battles. It also tracks your clan stats as well, allowing you to compare and compete with clanmates for prestige.
As you play each game you will earn experience for your overall level, and there is also gold to be won. This gold can be spent on weapons in the store. There are also other currencies used, you have Bullets, Medals and BScoins. Bullets are the premium currency in the game and they give you access to weapon packs, that have 1 item in them out of a list of 5. They also give you BScoins which you can then use in the store to target the specific item you want.
The gameplay overall is pretty exciting, there is a lot of control available and the use of both the Silencer and class skills is very tactical. Getting the best out of your items is also a lot of fun. While there is the option to buy the better weapons early you can also get all of them through playing, so the Pay to Win is less of an issue here.
Also, while it is possible to be one shot with a sniper rifle most weapons are not instant kill, which helps to give a more balanced game overall. The variety of game modes is nice and the custom options give you a lot of room to max out for your playstyle.
Community
There is a growing community for Black Squad now it is on steam, and there are a lot of players inside of the game. The addition of Clans and options to fight in units helps to create the community. You can also send messages to friends and live chat with players in the game.
Graphics/Sound
This is a pretty new game, and it uses the Unreal Engine as its core. As such it has a really nice playstyle and a pretty good feel. There are lots of custom options for you surrounding the look of the game which is a nice touch and allows you to make it look how you want. While it may not live up to some of the best games in terms of look, it is still competitive and a pretty good game to play.
The sounds and voiced commands are also pretty cool, in some of the game modes you really have to have sound active or you will struggle. But as with all types of games like this, the sound and echo effects are just as important as the visual side and this game lives up to what you need.
Conclusion
For a game still not quite finished there is a lot of fun to be had in Black Squad, there is a large enough playerbase to fully go for the game and there is a lot still to come. With all of the unique features and the addition of class skills there is some pretty cool action here and it is a great place to be right now.
