Gameplay

The game starts off with a nice and rather brief tutorial. Like Microsoft’s solitaire game that comes with the Windows operating system that you’re likely using or be familiar with, Solitaire Knockout is played in a manner that is very similar. In this game, you have to move cards to your top foundations starting with aces. Just a quick double click will be able to send any aces as well as the subsequent cards you encounter to the foundation.

You should also stack up cards that are sequential in value in a descending order and in alternating colors in order to uncover other cards underneath these existing cards. If there are no more cards that can be matched on the board, you can draw a new card from the deck. Check again with the cards on the board or foundation for matches. Rinse and repeat the process with the other cards from the deck or the cards that you’ve uncovered on the board.

After you’ve burned through the deck, you can recheck them (as many times as you like, without penalty) against the cards you have on the board and on your foundation to see if you can get any further matches. If you can’t, then you’re stuck and hence, you can end the game earlier.

In Solitaire Knockout, there is only 1 game mode that is the tournament mode - it is rather unfortunate that the game does not have a 1 vs 1 mode. In tournaments, you’ll be playing solitaire games in an exciting and dynamic real time environment with 3 other human players at the beginning. You and your opponent have the same shuffle (same cards in the same order) and it is up to you to beat the competition.

How? Well, similarly to Solitaire Arena, you’ll be moving your cards to your foundations to score one point in this game. However, if you are the first person among the other 3 to send the same card to the foundation, you will score an extra point. There is no time limit in the game and you have all the time you want. However, in order to win, you may need to be at least a tad bit faster than your opponents in returning cards to the foundation.

After each match in the tournament, the last place, or in other words, the player with the lowest score will be eliminated from the group. Therefore, if you stay in the lead and you’ll be just fine, while if you lost, you’ll be booted from the tournament and you have to start all over again (thankfully, to play, you don’t need to pay any
“entrance fees”). If you can keep to the lead even after playing 3 rounds maximum, you’ll emerge as the victor of the tournament!

Solitaire Knockout also provides a range of tools that you can use when you’ve encountered any tight spots in the game, such as hint, undo, auto-end and keys. When a hint is available, the light bulb lights up. Thus, every time you think you are stuck, click on the hint button and a glow will show you what you should do next. You can use the hint as many times as you want at absolutely no cost. However, if you are truly stuck, then you should, as aforementioned, end the game earlier as soon as you can so your opponent will not be able to catch up to you in terms of your score.

The undo button is useful every time you want to reverse a previous action. Hence, you will never worry about making a mistake again in this game! Undo, like hint, are free to use and you can use it as many times as you like! There’s also an auto-end button that you can toggle. This button will send any matching cards automatically to foundation. Although this function is activated by default, it can be deactivated at any time when you want.

Keys are like the “specials” that you can only buy using real money to give yourself an advantage over other players. They can be the determinant whether you’ll win or lose a tournament, especially if you’re stuck! Use the key button every time you are stuck and when there are no more valid moves. A face-down card will then be unlocked magically and ready to be used! If you’re curious to give these keys a try, well, you are given 5 keys for free in this game.

Being as competitive as you are, you mustn’t forget to compare the number of tournaments that you’ve won on the various leaderboards, namely friends, national and global, to see how well you are doing!

Community

Due to just being released around a month ago, Solitaire Knockout does not have as huge a community as its predecessor, Solitaire Arena. However, having a community of 20 thousand online players is no small feat for a casual solitaire game, neither is getting 5 thousand likes on its Facebook app page! There are always plenty of players online at any time, so there is never any shortage of opponents for you to challenge to a tournament! The matchmaking in this game works excellently and each queue lasts barely 1 minute.

Graphics/ Sound

Solitaire Knockout is a very simple and plain-looking solitaire game and thus, you should not expect to see interesting card patterns, for example. Every graphic in the game works their roles well in the game that’s what matters in Solitaire Knockout. The game does not contain any music or sound, besides the occasional sound effects. This is a good thing since you won’t have music interrupting your focus while playing. If you need to listen to some music, well, you can always play the music that you like instead!
