After investigating the crime scene, Detective Lindsay was convinced that this is no accidental death and embarked on a quest to sniff out the killer and bring him or her to justice! The boy was wearing track pants with the name of a prestigious Southern military academy and she thought it’s wise to start there. The story became even more intriguing as another dead cadet from the same academy turned up. Who killed these poor cadets and why?
Gameplay
The Women’s Murder Club, if you’re not familiar with it, consists of Jill Bernhardt, a district attorney; Claire Washburn, a medical examiner; Cindy Thomas, an investigative reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle, and Detective Lindsay Boxer with the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD). In this game, you’ll be able to play as 3 of the 4 members of the club (all except the District Attorney) and you will be switched between them when the case requires it. You can easily see who you’re playing as by referring to the profile picture on the top left corner of the screen.
The game starts off pretty casually – with a breakfast date among the ladies in the Women’s Murder Club. However, their entertaining chat was cut short when Detective Lindsay received a text from her colleague, Warren Jacobi. An unidentified body of a young male was discovered on the rocky beach near a cliff. What seems like an accidental death took quite a turn around to homicide when Lindsay noticed clues that indicate that this case is a murder case.
Use your observational powers and help Lindsay find clues in each crime scene as she makes her way towards discovering the real killer behind the murder! Examine the scene and take pictures of important clues that you’ve spotted on the scene. If you’re lost as to what to do in any scene, just find the sparkling area or you could refer to your notebook that describes in detail what you’ll need to do in each location. It also lists any evidence that you will need to collect. Some evidences are not as easily bagged though. For example, for blood samples, you will need to virtually reach into your inventory and grab a cotton swab to collect the sample. After all, you can’t possibly bag the entire thing, right?
After you’ve collected and bagged evidences from the scenes, just send them on to the forensic laboratory for analysis. You’ll then be treated to a mini-game whereby you have to mix the correct amount of chemicals in order to identify the samples you’ve collected. Sometimes, some evidences cannot be processed by the lab and will need to be matched with items that the deceased own. Occasionally, you’ll even need to separate the junk from the evidence or rearrange fragments of a torn letter or document that will help your case.
Moreover, you will even be needed to interrogate suspects. Interrogation is quite interesting in A Darker Shade of Grey as you are given the choice of choosing which questions you want to ask from among the 3 choices given. Don’t worry though! If you missed out any important questions, you can go back and ask them. There are a huge range of mini-games that you will definitely enjoy in A Darker Shade of Grey in addition to the usual hidden object scenes.
Every vital clue you’ve collected are filed meticulously away into your case files as investigation cards. There are 4 files, namely evidence, victim, information and suspects, separate your evidences nicely for easy reference. You will need them to uncover the real killer and for your friend, Jill, to make her case, so be sure to get all the evidence in the scenes!
Some of the mini-games can be pretty hard though. For when you’ve encountered such puzzles, you may need some help for you to pull through. For each “episode” of the investigation, you are given 15 hints to use. These hints are very helpful to ad you in figuring out how to solve a mini-game. However, worse comes to worse, if you still can’t solve the puzzle, there’s an auto-solve button that will help you to continue the story.

Graphics/ Sound
The story in this game is depicted in comic relief which was very nicely drawn. The scenes are all very well designed as well, making the hidden object scenes not too tough to solve but not too easy to blaze through either. It’s the epitome of just right! Some of the scenes can be rather picturesque too! In terms of music, the game has none. It does contain sound effects and certain ambient sound, but that’s about it. It’s a real pity though, as the developers could have added voiceover for the dialogue part to make the story a lot more engaging.
