Summary

Blossom Blast Saga is another match-3 game from King, makers of the hit game Candy Crush Saga. In this game, you’ll be linking flowers together to make them bloom and clear them off the board. Special flowers activate powerful blasting (and blossoming) effects for getting more bonus points. Ready your green thumb and make blooming matches for a floral harvest!

Plotline

In Blossom Blast Saga, we follow the story of Blossom the bee. She’s a very adventurous bee and wants to explore beyond the garden and travel the world. To do that, she would need nectar – lots of it. You need to help Blossom the bee grow her flowers so she can get enough nectar to set off for the big, beautiful world that awaits her.

Gameplay

Blossom Blast Saga looks and feels different from other King match-3 games, but in a good way. Instead of matching 3 or more objects in a straight line, you need to link three or more flowers together in any direction as long as they are adjacent to each other. Although the sizes of the flowers differ, they can be matched as long as they’re of the same color or kind. When the same kinds of flowers are matched, they bloom. When a match makes the flower bloom to its maximum size, it’s taken off the board. Making one good match to bloom one flower might cause other flowers around it to bloom and clear the board.

While the basic goal is to clear the board from all flowers, some levels also require a number of points to collect. You collect points by linking flowers and making them bloom. Linking a long line of flowers will create a chain reaction of blooms and is a quicker way to clear the board with just a few moves. The minimum number of flowers you can link is three, and it appears there’s no maximum number, as long as the flowers are of the same kind and can be linked together.

The game also has a Big Bud level, where you need to link flowers to one or more Big Buds. These Big Buds have a number on them, indicating the number of smaller flowers that you need to link to them. When it reaches zero, the bud will cause a huge explosion. You need to bloom all Big Buds to clear the level.

As you enter new levels, there will be obstacles along the flower bed. Different obstacles require certain moves to clear. Pot Plants are usually lined along the edges of the flowers. Link flowers next to them to clear them off the board. Moles dig holes and make the ground unusable, so be sure to get rid of them as soon as you can by blooming flowers near them. Sometimes, half or more than half the flowers are covered with glass. Link uncovered flowers to the ones which are covered to break the glass. Weeds can be removed by linking flowers next to it as well. If not removed immediately, weeds will spread across the board. In some levels, there are more than one kind of obstacle. For instance, Pot Plants might appear in one row, then the row below it would be glass or weeds.
If you find the obstacles too hard to remove, you can use the Shovel booster to remove one or more flowers or obstacle on the board. You can only use the Shovel three times within a level. You can buy more Shovel with Gold Bars.

Just like similar King games, Blossom Blast Saga limits the time you can play the game by giving you a few lives and moves for each session. When you’re out of lives or moves, you can continue playing by using Gold Bars, which you can buy with real money. If you don’t want to pay, you can wait until all five lives regenerate after 30 minutes. For levels where you run out of moves, you lose one life and you can replay the level as long as you have more lives available. To make this process less painful, you can connect the game to your Facebook account and ask your friends to send you lives when you need them.

Blossom Blast Saga is a deceptively easy game, and the difficult levels will sneak in when you least expect it. It’s quite a refreshing match-3 offering from King, and definitely something worth playing. While there are some limitations with boosters, lives and moves unless you pay a premium currency, it’s still possible to play the game without spending a single cent, although you just have to be patient.

Community

Check out the Facebook page for this game and you’ll find over 100,000 followers. The game is obviously gaining popularity, although not as much as the more popular Candy Crush Saga and other similar games released by King. Nevertheless, the game has quite a huge community, and you won’t have a hard time adding friends for the game.

Graphics/Sound

Although this game looks very different from other King games, the graphics are still solid. Sporting a more rustic look, Blossom Blast Saga presents a garden world that’s vibrant and colorful. Animations are fun to watch, especially when there’s a lot of blooming that happens. The music and sound effects, however, sound like any other King game, which is not a bad thing for the game.

Conclusion

Blossom Blast Saga tries to set itself apart from other match-3 games by giving you a unique way of matching (or linking) flowers together while solving challenging obstacles along the way. You might start out like a pro, but later on you’ll soon find that this game can be a head-scratcher. If you like flowers and a new way to play a match-3 game, then Blossom Blast Saga is a great game to try.
