Summary

Trapped on a beautiful island with nowhere to go, you’ve decided to make the “waiting for a rescue party” process much more bearable by finding and rescuing your fellow plane wreck victims. Get them busy to put their minds off the fact that they are trapped on the island by building farms and other facilities, by using crafting materials, such as wood, stone and grass collected from the forest or the beach, to colonize the island and to keep starvation at bay! Collect fruits and other foodstuff from the jungle in addition to farming and craft them into more staple food items. However, little did you know that the island is a very mysterious place, and as you explore it, you’ll discover more secrets about the island. Do you think you could lead these poor people and establish a nice tropical colony on Coral Isle?

Plotline

It all started when a group of friends boarded a flight to Australia. The flight showed no sign of trouble and everything went smoothly. The friends were busy planning for fun things to do when they reach the wondrous Australia continent. However, the plane’s engine suddenly started to malfunction without any apparent reason and the entire plane went into a vertical nose-dive. It was a nightmare coming true! You passed out from shock and fear and awaken to the sounds of sea waves. You survived and are on the beach of a beautiful tropical island!

Now, you are determined to survive until rescue hopefully arrives. Until then though, you will want to set up a good shelter and start hoarding foodstuff and fresh water. You will want to also search the island for any other survivors so that you all can band together and work for the survival of the entire group!

Gameplay

The most important things any survivor has to get when he find himself stranded on an island are the vital supplies – food and water. Thankfully, on Coral Isle, resources are plentiful; you only need to know where to find the stuff! You can easily get plenty of food by collecting them from beaches (shellfishes) or in the forests (for example, fruits and eggs). If you’re lucky, you may even find boxes of food that are strewn all over the island from the crashed plane. These food items will then need to be converted into storable foodstuff. You can obtain water from springs that are hidden in the forests as well! Furthermore, these food items and water will regenerate over time, so you can collect them from the trees and the spring again – as long as you didn’t get them all chopped down or hollowed out.

You’ll also need plenty of crafting materials to construct buildings to make life much better for you and your growing band of survivors. These buildings usually require lots of grasses, which you can get by cutting –what else?- grasses, and wood that you can get by chopping trees. Sometimes, you may even need stone which you can mine from rocks near the shore and lianas that you can collect from certain palm trees, and like the food items, they will gradually regenerate themselves over a period of time.

Of course, by collecting items, you’ll consume an energy point. These energy points will regenerate over time as well, but if you prefer things to move along faster, you can ask for chocolate bars, which grants you a bonus of 2 energy points, from your friends or spend some premium currency, which, in this case, is represented by pearls. If you have the energy points to spare, you can also find and collect plane wrecks for more experience points too!

Now that you have hopefully sufficient materials, it’s time to construct shelters for each survivor you’ve rescued, including yourself, from the elements of nature. The hovels that you’ll need have 3 building stages and each stage requires quite a lot of resources. Do take note that not all buildings have 3 stages in their construction process though – some “buildings” like the campfire (to signal any possible rescuers to your position), the calendar (to start marking down the days you’ve been here) or the cauldron (for cooking) only have 1. Once the hovel’s done, you then need to assign a survivor, or even yourself, to the hovel. 1 hovel can only house 1 occupant, thus, if you have 2 survivors, you’ll need 2 hovels and so on and so forth.

Besides housing, you can also build resource producing buildings like lumberjack and stonemason. These buildings, like the cauldron, are a tad bit different. To get them to work, you’ll need to assign a survivor to work there. For instance, if you want to cook a more stomach-filling meal, you’ll need an available survivor to do that for you. This is also why the more survivors you rescue from the plane wreck, the better it is! After all, in a strange land, such as the Coral Isle, it’s always best for people to band together. Who knows that is lurking as you venture deep inland.

However, more people means that you’ll also have more mouths to feed. Thus, it won’t be enough to just collect fruits and shellfishes to feed so many people. This is when you’ll need to start placing plots and farm for the food you need! In Coral Isle, the game offers many different types of crops, some of which are pretty unique, that you can plant, such as the kumquats, sweet potatoes, figs, sugar cane, wheat and corn. You can even grow grass if you need more for your many construction projects or even flowers to beautify the area with! Bear in mind that both planting and harvesting cost energy in this game, unlike in other farming games, and since you are unable to sell off any excess crops you get, you might want to plant just enough crops for you to use.

In Coral Isle, you can also domesticate wild animals on the island to produce a steady supply of food for all the survivors. After all, not everyone can suffer through a vegetarian diet, especially when you expect them to work so hard every day. You can keep chickens, sheep, pigs, goats and even cows in this game and you’ll need to periodically feed them with the feed of their choice, which usually involves your crops, before they will produce any animal produce.

Moreover, when you perform any action in the game, you may sometimes obtain collectibles, along with the materials and experience points. There are quite a lot of collection sets that you can complete in Coral Isle, such as the beetle, coins, flower and egg collections. By completing a collection, you’ll also earn yourself some nice goodies.

Coral Isle is also a very social game. This is why the game implemented another type of currency, called “friendium” that you can earn by helping out on your friends’ islands. Friendium can then be used to buy some exclusive items at the shop.

Community

The community in Coral Isle is not exactly huge due to the fact that the game is currently still undergoing development. In fact, you’re actually playing the “open beta/alpha” of sorts of the game, but don’t worry, the bugs it seems are rather minimal though the game is prone to crashes at times (your progress is all saved though, don’t worry!). Despite this, the fan page of the game on Facebook already has 16 thousand likes! Since neighbors play a rather huge role in this game, you might want to go over there and add some new friends! You can then help each other out to grow your farms and create your own beautiful islands!

Graphics/ Sound

The 3D graphics in Coral Isle is simply astonishing! The scenery is breathtakingly beautiful and may even make you wonder when you’re next company leave’s coming up so you could book a trip to one of those famous beach resorts for a week! In terms of music, Coral Isle contains a soothing and fun tropical music that is accompanied by the sounds of birds singing and of sea waves crashing on the beach. It, coupled with the beautiful graphics, has a calming effect on the soul!

Conclusion

In short, Coral Isle is a rather fun and addictive farming simulation game. In this game, the plane you and your fellow plane passengers are in crashed while it is enroute to Australia due to some unforeseeable event. Thankfully, you’ve survived the crash on a remote and apparently uninhabited island that has plenty of resources that you can use to your advantage! By collecting fruits to be stored as foodstuff and other materials, like wood and grass, to construct shelters and other necessary buildings, you can actually create a nice and comfortable home on the island while waiting for any possible rescue. Not to mention, you are willing to share your little haven on the island to any survivors that come along as well! Unbeknownst to you though, the island itself contains many secrets that you’ll eventually get to discover as you progress in the game. Do you think you have what it takes to build a thriving community of survivors on Coral Isle? Play now and find out!
