Gameplay
When you enter the game you are off on a quick tutorial teaching you how to play the game. Once you choose your class from the list of Assassin, Berserker, Warrior and Wizard. Each has a unique set of skills and abilities, and you are shown around these when you 1st play each class. From there you are off onto your adventure.
As you are waiting for the game to download you get a taste for just how good this game looks as you are able to fully customize your avatar. Each class has its own unique features and you really can choose from a huge range of options. A truly epic character design for a mobile game. Then you are off into the action and this is where it really stands out.
The action is fast paced, and not your normal mobile game either. Here you have to look at your enemies to cast spells, there is no auto targeting or focusing on the closest enemy, you need to aim your spells and abilities and be there for the entire combat. A dramatic change to the norm and one that really pulls you into the game. As well as that you also have a rage bar, as this fills up you will gain the ability to use your rage.
This is a floating skull that pops up near your skills bar, when it is full you are able to finish off your opponent in style. You have a short time to click, but when you do you are rewarded with a beautiful, if bloody cut scene in which you finish off every enemy around you. Simply amazing and a great tool if you can get the timing right.
As you would expect in an MMO there are also lots of items for you to find and use throughout the game. There are tiers of gear and they are awarded as you play, with the higher tears at the higher levels. There is also a blacksmith who can improve or upgrade your gear and set items and weapons that come with their own bonuses if you use them in combination with each other.
Add in a radically dramatic PvP combat system, bonuses for playing multiple classes on the same account and a huge amount of players in the guild system you have a very active and good looking game that absorbs you as you play. Not for the faint of heart this is a stunning game to get your teeth into.
Community
There is a hugely passionate crowd of players for this game, with its darker side, gear system and sheer battle bound content it has created a huge following. There are in game guilds and group events, as well as a host of forums, pages dedicated to the game and of course an active Reddit for tips and tricks. All in all a great community awaits you when you dive into this game.
Graphics/Sound
For a mobile game Darkness Rises is breathtaking. It looks stunning, plays well and feels amazing. The characters are clearly defined, the action is fast paced and very clean too. The artwork and world setting behind the monsters and heroes is gorgeous and you have an experience that is very hard to match. With atmospheric music, depth of sound and a quality that can not be denied this is a great game to see.
Conclusion
This is a simply stunning game, though toward the end it can feel like a grind getting to the top tier items, you can use the blacksmith to your advantage and really get to the maximum. Outside of that this is a stunning game, with an adult style and realistic MMO combat this is brilliant, and it looks great too. All in all a game well worth a try.
