Summary
Freestyle Football is a fun new game where you get to customize and play a character in a variety of different football games. Here you can play in a team of 4 in competitive leagues, or play with the game against computer generated teams from all over the world. With a huge range of fun options, special abilities and trickshots there is a lot of variety for you here, and of course some amazing football action.
Gameplay
When you take a peek into the game you are looking at a a character creation screen. Here you get to make your avatar, though it will change as you play the game you can choose your beginning look. From there you go into a brief tutorial where you can begin to play the game. Here you will learn the skills that you will need in matches, as well as how the basic controls work.
Once you pass the tutorial you get to the control panel, here you have access to the shop, skills, records and the match start menu. You can also see your character and how they look in full 3D. This area is where you control all aspects outside of a match and has a lot of different things, but they are all neatly organized and easy to read.
There are several match styles you can take part in, there are casual games with friends, competitive league games and a story where you play against computer generated players from all over the world. In each game you pay your character on the field with 3 others, either players or computer characters that will work on your side. The aim is to score more goals than the opposing team within the time limit.
You can move around the field, pass, tackle and shoot as well as be anywhere you want on the pitch. Each action uses the WASD keys and those around it, such as passing or tackling are both the Q button depending on who has the ball at that point. The action is fast paced and you can jump right in. Though we would recommend a few practice matches before you go to the more competitive leagues.
One of the biggest features of the game is how much you can customise your characters. There is a huge store full of funky and cool items for you to put on from hairstyles to the coolest shoes and everything in between. You can build a classic 70’s style or go crazy with animal patterns and cowboy hats. All of these items can be found in the store, for either coins or Ecoins and once you have an item it is yours to keep.
There are also skill slots, where you add specific traits to your character to make them better on the pitch. These are unlocked as you level although the slots are limited. This can be removed by the use of real money and it will give you an edge over players who have not unlocked these extra slots. These skills really do make a difference and there are a lot to choose from but you can find the ones you want to suit your play style.
Overall there is a lot you can do in Freestyle Football, and it is a really fun game. Your actual skill level is a big factor here, even if you never spend any money you can be competitive with the other players if you can get the balance of the game right for your play style. Throw in the amount of personalization available and it makes for a fun place to be.
Community
There are a lot of people enjoying this game and the game feels full and vibrant. With an active Steam community as well as a lot of useful sites, blogs and webpages dedicated to it there is quite the bit community out there. The in game club facility is also a fun way to connect with people and get involved in the more social side of the game too.
Graphics/Sound
There is a really fun Anime style take on the world with Freestyle Football and it brings a unique vision and look to football. Here you can be anything from a 70’s hippie to the most modern of hipster looks. That is all a lot of fun, and when you get into the game these looks really take on their own. In the matches you can easily see your character as well as all of the others and it is pretty cool to see.
The graphics are smooth and fun and the 3D styling for the matches works well. Outside of the games there is a simple design and a lot of fun little twists that stand out. The music for the game is exciting and there are lots of voiced characters and fun background sounds that add to the atmosphere and make it an enjoyable place to be.
Conclusion
WHen you take all of the cool features in combination it makes for a fun game with a lot of unique twists. The freestyle moves are interesting and can make the game really interesting. The mix of games vs players or games vs computer is also a dynamic that adds to the replayability and the truly competitive can really get a lot from this amazing game.
