Summary
Set in a fantasy world where gods and demons are in an all-out war with each other, Lost Age is the brand-new idle RPG from Game Hollywood. Assemble a team of powerful heroes and embark on an epic adventure to defeat the Dominator itself! Make sure to upgrade your team as you progress, spar with your fellow players, or team up with them via guilds, and grow your team to become one of the strongest on the server!
Plotline
As typical of these idle-style browser-based RPGs, the storyline is vague enough to provide some sort of context to the background of the game world and your character, and has a powerful villain to defeat at the end. In this game, the villain is the Dominator, and apparently, there’s an ongoing war between gods and demons. By tapping into these beings’ powers and assembling your ideal team of heroes (preferably SSS-tiered), you will be able to battle your way to the top and hopefully be able to take on the Dominator itself!
Gameplay
Browser-based idle RPGs like Lost Age often has an insane number of features, building upon the features and mechanics of previous titles. However, the game does a pretty good job of easing you in without overwhelming you, introducing more and more gameplay features and upgrades as you progress. This is super helpful since the game does have a variety of currencies, some are more premium than others, tokens, upgrade materials, crafting materials, heroes, and so on.
All of the currencies and materials you need can be obtained one way or the other, be it running or “blitzing” dungeons, growing them in your garden, or even opening magic boxes and other loot caches that you may find along the way. The game is also very generous to the free-to-play player, especially if you start on a newly launched server, by offering them plenty of freebies… that is, if they knew where to look. It’s always a good idea to check every icon in games like Lost Age – you might just be pleasantly surprised with a gift!
As a party-based RPG, you’ll need to assemble a strong team of heroes to take on any enemies that may come your way. Heroes come in different tiers, with the SSS tier being the most powerful, but of course, those can be insanely rare, and if equipped and upgraded properly, they can really wreak havoc on your enemies. Heroes are summoned via something called a Star Covenant here. The heroes you get are random but I like that, unlike some other browser RPGs, you don’t have to collect fragments of a hero before actually getting them – you get them straight up! This also means that you can quickly assemble a starter team of six and have them head out for an adventure.
Heroes can be upgraded in many ways in this game, with even more ways unlocked as you level up your team. However, there are also restrictions in place to stop you from blazing through the content too fast, such as forcing you to “star up” a hero before you can level it up, but naturally, the materials you need to "star up" a hero can be a bit short in supply. These restrictions aren’t just limited to heroes, but they include all the dungeons as well – there are limits as to how many times you can blitz a dungeon, even if you have the “points” to do it.
You also get a pet dragon in this game, which, along with sigils and some other features, mainly serve to grant your team additional Battle Rating (or BR). Note that Battle Rating is basically the indicator you’ll rely on to know how strong your team is. Naturally, you’ll want to have as high a BR as possible. That said, having a high BR doesn’t guarantee you’ll win a PvP match against a player with a slightly lower one – luck, for instance, still comes into play here, but you do get that advantage over your opponent.
Since the game features idle combat, you can essentially have your team start a dungeon or a fight and just leave to do something else. There’s no need to watch the whole fight play out. In fact, some dungeons and fights even have the auto-combat function, allowing you to have your team move on to the next fight after they are done with the previous one. This even applies to PvP fights, which is surprising to me.
With features that were built upon and honed over the lifespans of several browser MMOs, Lost Age is definitely a very addictive game. The game is basically button pressing and optimizing the resources you get, but the game has this hook on the player, reeling them in with constant new unlocks, where every unlock can add a substantial amount of BR to your team and a blitz-paced progression in which there’s always something to do or check on. This is especially true if you play near the reset time of the servers, which easily reels you in for at least a few hours.
The only downside that some players may take some issue with is the game’s monetization. There are quite a lot of exclusive heroes, loot, and advantages that you can get if you pay real money, things that the average free-to-play player will never be able to get. Some players may feel like this is unfair, but frankly speaking, you can still become one of the top players on the server if you are willing to put in the hours and the work.
Community
As an MMO, Lost Age focuses a lot on player community-based activities, ranging from PvP events to guild events to even guild PvP events. Hence, if you want to get the full gameplay experience, you might want to join a guild or perhaps even start one.
Graphics/ Sound
Lost Age features anime-like visuals that are astoundingly beautiful for a browser MMO. The details of the heroes, for example, are incredible, and the game mostly features pastels, with bursts of color here and there.
In terms of sound, the game features a selection of background music that changes depending on what you’re doing on-screen. The music is fairly generic, however, and you’ll quickly learn to tune them out. There are some snippets of voice acting here and there, voicing certain dialogues and characters.
Conclusion
All in all, Lost Age is a very addictive and fun, idle browser RPG that has a lot going for it. There are so many events to participate in, upgrades to purchase, and if you fancy supporting the devs, premium loot, heroes, and advantages, that can really give you quite a leg up in the game. However, if you’re looking for an RPG that’s more active, then the idle-based gameplay in Lost Age may not be up your alley.
