Summary
One Line Coloring is a fun and relaxing puzzle game where the goal is to connect all the lines on the image to fill it up with color. The trick here is that your lines mustn’t intersect with one another and well, the game will introduce some challenges such as lines that can only go in one direction. As you complete each puzzle, you’ll reveal an item in a diorama. There are 8 dioramas with a cumulative total of 308 levels for you to enjoy… and that’s a whole lot of coloring!
Gameplay
The goal of every level in this game is pretty straightforward despite offering no tutorial. By controlling the green dot, you’ll need to connect all the nodes to draw the outline of the object and fill in the gaps with color. The challenge here lies in the fact that you can’t go through lines that have already been drawn on, so sometimes, it’s important to plan out your moves first before committing to a path by drawing.
As you play, the game will offer new challenges too. Besides more complex puzzles where there are a lot more lines and nodes to connect, you’ll sometimes encounter lines that can only be drawn in a specific direction.
Sometimes, the game even throws you a curveball by letting you choose the start point of your line. This actually makes the puzzle more challenging mainly because if your chosen start point is “incorrect”, then you may not be able to solve the puzzle. It takes some trial and error to find the “correct” start point. Though, like all other puzzles, I’m sure there are likely several ways you can solve it, and hence, there is likely a select handful of start points that you can use.
Made a mistake? Well, considering how easy it can be to accidentally draw the wrong line here, especially if the nodes are really close together, the game provides you with an unlimited undo button – just right-click! You can even undo right back to the start if you want, though if you’re after the game’s achievement that requires each level to be solved within 45 seconds, you might want to opt for the restart button instead of undoing all your moves so you can get a fresh start. To restart, simply press Esc to bring up the menu and you’ll see the button.
Every completed puzzle will materialize the object you’ve drawn and colored to the diorama it is assigned to. There are 8 different dioramas here in One Line Coloring. Though the number of objects and hence, puzzles, vary from diorama to diorama, you will get to enjoy solving a total of 308 puzzles!
The game is pretty well-made and is very fun to play, especially if you’re into casual puzzle games, but if I had to nitpick, I’d say that I’m a bit annoyed that the game doesn’t have a proper “Exit game” button. The game will close down rather abruptly if you press the Esc button on the keyboard at the “Home” (a.k.a. diorama selection) screen which I assume is the default Exit button.
As you might have expected from the simple controls and vibrant colors, One Line Coloring is originally a mobile game. You can buy it on Google Play or the App Store for just $2.99. The Steam version, unfortunately, costs a lot more and is priced at $4.99. I can’t say for sure if the PC version comes with more dioramas than the mobile version since I don’t have access to the mobile app, but I can definitely say that if you wait a bit for a sale, the Steam game will be discounted to only $1.99 which is a price that’s truly a steal!
Graphics/ Sound
The low-poly art is beautiful here. The pastel colors are vibrant and dioramas are all really well-built. They are also animated too, so you may, for instance, see the cloud you’ve added to a diorama to drift about like a real cloud would. The music is designed to provide the player with a relaxing atmosphere to solve the puzzles in as well.
Conclusion
In a nutshell, One Line Coloring is a beautiful, fun, and relaxing line-connecting puzzle game where you’ll get to draw and color various objects in the several differently-themed dioramas available simply by drawing lines and connecting nodes. The game offers a nice challenge without being too hard, and optionally, you’ll be rewarded with a nice achievement if you manage to solve each puzzle fast enough.
