Plotline
The evil organization, GlobeX, has somehow managed to reprogram the brains of almost all members of the Strike Force Heroes (SFH) team to carry out their bidding. With the highly trained SFH members leading their clone army, nothing could possible stop GlobeX from bringing the whole world under their control.... or so it seems. Their efforts in reprogramming the SFH have a tiny flaw – they’ve missed out a couple of SFH members and one of them is you! The other SFH members have given up and gone into hiding, but it is now up to you to rally them to your cause, fight against the overwhelming odds and bring GlobeX to their knees. The freedom of the world is in your hands... and the only question left is are you up to the task?
Gameplay
To begin your first mission, you’ll first need a squad. Each character can be recruited randomly via the Heroes section of the game for a price. Each of them has their own class. These classes include engineers, gunslingers, medics, mercenaries, elites, juggernauts, snipers and even ninjas.
Different classes have different weapon restrictions, stats and kill streak abilities. For instance, gunslingers provide a more supportive role in terms of their abilities and usually can boost team effectiveness. Naturally, a great squad is usually made up of varying classes of characters. Heroes also have weapon slots – a primary and a secondary, 1 mod slot and 1 equipment slot.
Strike Force Heroes 3 is very much a team-based game and in the team of characters, you’ll be controlling only the captain while the other characters are AI controlled. Now, before you scoff and give this game the pass, you should know that the AI system in this game is very nicely designed to give you that challenge you seek. Of course, things might start off slower at the beginning, but eventually, you’ll be going toe-to-toe against your team of AI opponents.
In addition to the main mission, there are also many other game modes as well, including team deathmatch, capture points, capture the flag (more like "the briefcase"), and team gun game (kills will upgrade your team’s weapons). There are even custom games whereby you can decide the parameters of the game, and daily missions that push your skills to the limits. You can even fight in a 5 vs 5 PvP match via custom game by obtaining the squad code of your friends or sharing your squad code with them.
Combat in Strike Force Heroes 3 is arcade-like. It allows you to shoot in 360 degrees and leap from platform to platform. You’ll be using WASD or the arrow keys to move, mouse to shoot, “R” to reload, and the “Q” or “Shift” key to scroll through your equipped weapons. Interestingly, each hero has their respective kil lstreak ability whereby you’ll fill up the meter with kills and once it’s full, you can activate to use it. Most abilities are supportive in nature and shouldn’t make a player too overpowered.
Playing this game is fun and all, but your heroes can get tired over time. Heroes perform worse in battle when tired and can recover by not battling. So, you can either take a break from the game or switch to playing other characters. Don’t forget to drop by the shop to spend your earned income or head over to the workshop to upgrade and enhance your weapons.
Community
Despite being released around 2 years ago, the community in Strike Force Heroes 3 is still growing and it doesn’t seem to be stopping any time soon. However, the game has been shifted from being on Facebook to Armor Games’ and notDoppler websites instead. If you fancy meeting your fellow players, you should be able to find them over at those sites.
Graphics/Sound
The game is designed to be arcade-y in style. Hence, the 2D graphics in the game are pretty cartoony. In addition, the maps for each level are very well-designed too, allowing for maneuvers such as flanking and out-flanking. In terms of music, Strike Force Heroes 3 has some ominous notes in its background music. There are also the usual sound effects of gunfire when you’re shooting. The sound and graphics are all pretty basic, but this game is incredibly fun.
Conclusion
In short, Strike Force Heroes 3 is a surprisingly fun, challenging, and addictive arcade shooter game that has made quite a name for itself. The flexibility and the maneuverability of your character in the game, along with clever AIs, made the game so enjoyable to play. You’ll also get to build up your own team of SFH members and equip them with the best gear the game has to offer. Thus, if you’re a huge fan of arcade shooters, you won’t want to miss out on Strike Force Heroes 3. It is that good!
