Plotline
The game puts you in a fantasy world with thirteen different regions. You as a summoner must stop the dark forces from consuming the land. The story progress every time you clear out a region in your adventure, and more plot will be revealed to flesh out the story and lore of Summoners War.
Gameplay
Summoners War plays like other hero recruiting RPGs available in the mobile platform. You build your team by summoning creatures, once you have your team, you go on in an adventure by clearing out stages. The farther you go in the region, the harder it becomes.
The combat is your standard turn-based system where you takes turns with your summons in performing action. However unlike in traditional turn-based games, this has no defend option or item usage, instead you get to use your summons’ abilities or the standard attacks. Depending on the summon that you have, the abilities may vary, from healing abilities to buffs up to special damage dealing attacks to the entire party of enemies. The abilities will have certain cooldown timers that will be useable again after a certain amount of turns. You can also put your battles into fast forward to speed up the battle or set it in auto for the AI to control your party.
If your party gets eliminated, you can opt to continue at the current battle by spending gems or retry the entire stage from the start. Completing battles will give you experience points for your party as well as mana and other loot such as runes or scrolls. Participating in battles will spend your stamina, once your stamina is out, you cannot participate until it replenishes.
The summons you made can be done in your town, you will be needing certain items to summon as well as mana. Mana can be acquired at your Mana Pool in town, however keep in mind that acquiring mana can only be done at certain times as after accumulating mana, it will recharge until full. The summoning items can be acquired from loot drops or rewards from quests, there are also points that can be used from added friends in the game that can send points for the summoning.
The summons have specific ranks that shows its rarity. The more starts it has, the rarer it is. And these rarities are not just for show, it tells how powerful they also can be. Some summons have special buffs that can be activated when placed as a leader in the team, this may vary from improved stats or added elemental abilities, so it is best to put a summon with buffs as leader.
Upgrading your summons can be done by completing stages to gain experience points or by upgrading them in town by offering other summons as sacrifices, the most sacrifices that you provide, the more experience points that you can accumulate, there are also factors on the level and rarity of the sacrificed summon for the total amount of experience points that you can gain. Another way to improve your summons is by promoting them, take for example your 3-star summon can become a 4-star summon by acquiring certain items in quests or premium items, promoting them also means improving their stats and unlocking new abilities.
There are PvP aspects in the game in the form of rank battles. You get to challenge other players within your ranks for a battle. However, their summons are all AI controlled so there is no thrill in these matches unless the opponent is a high level team. Winner earns you points for your ranks and other bonuses.

Summoners War is a popular game with a huge community. You will not run out of friends playing in this game. With the rank battles, you can challenge other players’ Summons. Or you can add them as your friend to aid you in your adventures as additional party members. You can also give gifts to them which in return they will send back gifts as well. You can join guilds that will unlock new features that lets you participate in raids or other guild related battles.
Graphics/ Sound
The visuals in Summoners War is very simple, it is in 3D but the textures and simple and clean yet it still provides enough texture to the characters to give them personalities. The special effects are also impressive and older smartphones can run the game due to its less heavy loading graphics. Sounds are decent with some music tracks to keep the mood of a fantasy world and traditional RPG tunes present.
Conclusion
Summoners War is a very entertaining game. It lets you collect and improve your creatures which is popular to most mobile games nowadays and it managed to provide an engaging and simple combat system. Though it features some premium items, but in like some of the games in the market, you can enjoy the game without actually spending real money.
