Gameplay

The game starts you off with a small abandoned airport and its supporting city. Now, it’s up to you to bring back this city’s former glory! So, let’s start building!

The available building space is divided into 2 parts - the top part is reserved for city buildings while the bottom part is reserved for airport buildings. Only appropriate type of buildings can be constructed in each part and if you’re unsure which, a green grid marker will show you which location the building can be placed on. City buildings in Airport City, mainly include residential houses and commercial buildings, though it also provide space for the building of utility facilities like fuel station and power plants that will supply your airport with a steady supply of fuel and electricity respectively. Since all buildings use electric energy in this game, if you don’t have enough electricity, be sure to quickly build new wind turbines or power plants.

Residential houses provide the passengers that your airport, or specifically, your airplanes, needs while commercial buildings, such as eatery, pharmacy and grocery store are another way of earning coins in this game. Passengers collected from residential buildings will then head to the terminal to wait for their flight. The terminal can be full though, so if this happens, you’ll need to upgrade the terminal to increase its capacity. Not to mention, your town itself also has a population limit and the limit depends on the level of your town hall. The population limit in turn affects how many houses you can build. The higher your maximum population is, the more houses you can build! Thus, be sure to upgrade your town hall from time to time as well! However, if the rate of population growth of your town is too low, you can instead add decorations to boost the population produced by each nearby dwelling.

Airport buildings, on the other hand, include runways, hangars, control towers, repair depots and many others. Runways are needed for the most obvious reason... that is to allow your planes to take off and each plane will need to have its own runway. Runways can also be upgraded to fit bigger planes. Furthermore, planes are very costly assets and you wouldn’t want it to sit idle while being exposed to the elements, right? This is mainly why you need a hangar, besides the fact that you will not be able to buy new planes until you have an empty hangar available. Similar to runways, hangars can also be upgraded to house bigger planes. Control towers are required when you want to build more hangars. Its primary function is to increase the number of hangars you can own and by upgrading it, you will get to do just that. When you run out of available space at either your airport or your city, you can even expand your territory to place more buildings!

Now that you have a hangar or two... are you thinking what I’m thinking? It’s time to buy your very first planes! Airport City offers quite a plethora of airplanes that you can purchase. The plane types range from the cheap propeller-driven variety to the sleek Falcon jets and even to the massive Delta planes! These planes are all level-locked though. Therefore, be sure to keep leveling up your airport city, so that you can buy bigger and more lucrative planes!

Ready to send your plane off on its maiden flight? Awesome, let’s go then! Access the flight list, assign a location and click “Fly!” to send your plane on its way to the skies! But of course, before the plan can actually take off, it will first have to be refueled and loaded on the runway. While you’re waiting, you can accept guest flights to land and refuel in your airport to get some extra resources or if you prefer not to wait, you can spend extra fuel to speed up your flight too! You may also obtain collectibles for your many collections when your plane returns. Completing collections may reward you with boosters or a special prize!

Each location you fly to offers up to 3 stars for you to earn and by running flights repeatedly, you’ll gradually earn a star. Besides flying to various locations, you can even run adventures or charters instead. When you’re high level enough, you can also build a spacecraft-launching facility and launch flights into space! Airport City is a very social game too! You can visit your friends’ airport cities and help out with some chores like collecting coins or passengers. In return, you will get a part of the profits or passengers, depending on which action you performed, as well as some bonus resources!

As your airport city develops, you will be able to offer more destinations for your passengers and attract famous stars and VIPs to come visit, adding to your city’s affluence. One day you may even host the World Cup or the Olympics... who knows, right?

Community

The community in Airport City is quite huge! The game has 1.1 million likes on its Facebook fan page... which is actually a rather huge and impressive number for a casual building game. If you need some friends to play the game with or simply just to meet new people, don’t hesitate to drop by the fan page and introduce yourself to the community! You may even ask for help with your city or for some tips and tricks.

Graphics/ Sound

The 3D graphics in Airport City is pretty pleasant to the eyes, though it may look a tad small to some people. The buildings are all very well-designed. Did you know that you can even toggle night mode in this game? Do go ahead and do so... the city does look so much better at night due to the lights! In terms of music, the game offers a catchy sort of music that is interspersed with communications by the pilots and airport announcers. The realistic plane sound effects are nicely done as well!

Conclusion

In short, Airport City is a pretty fun simulation and management game to play that provides you with the opportunity to build and develop both a modern airport and the nearby city that supports it. In this game, you’ll need to collect money, fuel and passengers from your city to be invested into your airport. At your airport, you can build and upgrade hangars (so you can purchase more and bigger planes), runways, repair depots and many more! Send your fleet of planes off to various locations and adventures, and who knows? Your planes may just bring back that something extra – collectibles – that you can add to your collection. Complete your collection to earn some goodies! Eventually, your airport city will have grown to a stage when you have the capability and resources to go into space exploration as well! Your airport city awaits you in Airport City! Are you ready to take on the challenge of restoring the city to its former glory?
