Summary
Featuring a heart-warming story of a mother’s quest to rescue her young daughter from a timeless being that’s steeped in Ancient Indian lore and mythologies, Darkarta: A Broken Hearts Quest is a hidden object adventure game that will keep you hooked to the very end. The game not only offers intrigue and mystery, it also provides you with challenging and varied hidden object scenes to play and puzzles to solve.
Plotline
The story revolves around a handsome man by the name of Anantha. Due to reasons unknown, his beloved sacrificed herself to give him power and immortality. However, something must have went wrong as Anantha, driven by grief due to the loss of his bride, turned into the cursed being, Darkarta. With his flying buffalo, he ventures out to the isles where his beloved died on full moon nights.
Fast forward to the current future, you were traveling to that very same isles in search of answers with your husband, James, and your young daughter, Sophia. Apparently, you’ve received a letter from your grandparents revealing that the parents you thought had perished in a fire in India might still be alive. However, things took a turn for the worse when the Darkarta swooped and kidnapped Sophia while wrecking your boat, throwing both you and your husband into the rough waters.
Needless to say, both of you survived the encounter, but James is in a rather bad shape. After ensuring that your injured husband is safe and in good hands of the local caretaker, you set off on a perilous journey to find your dear Sophia and rescue her from the cursed Darkarta.
Gameplay
Being a hidden object game, Darkarta: A Broken Hearts Quest doesn’t only have a great storyline to keep you engrossed. The game also provides tons of fun and challenging hidden object scenes where you’ll need to find useful items to aid you in your quest. Each scene in this game is meticulously designed, making each hidden object you need to be quite a challenge to find. Thankfully, the game offers you free hints that you can use once the hint meter is charged up and ready.
However, if you’d rather avoid playing a hidden object scene altogether, the game does provide you with an alternative – you can play a match-3 game instead. The items you get at the end of these hidden object scenes can usually be used immediately to say, help you get rid of an angry baboon for example, but sometimes, you still need to collect other pieces before you can combine them while at other times, you need to modify the item (with another item in your inventory) before you can use it.
There are plenty of puzzles as well in this game. They include both the usual sort, such as “spot the difference” puzzles, to more unique and complicated ones like a puzzle within a puzzle. There’s some backtracking involved here but all of these backtracks are well-justified, and well, at least, the game doesn’t force you to replay the same hidden object scene or puzzle several times.
If you love collectibles, know that you can find quite a number of them here in collector’s edition of Darkarta: A Broken Hearts Quest. There are memory collectables which will help you better understand the relationship between your character and her daughter. There are also plenty of morphing objects that you can find… only if you’re really aware of your surroundings in the game since some of them can be really tricky to spot.
Community
Since the game is basically a single-player game, it doesn’t exactly have any social features to speak off. However, if you really enjoy the game, it probably will be discussion forums on the internet that you can participate in.
Graphics/ Sound
The art and design in this game is astounding to say the least. I really love how the artists infused elements from the lost Incan civilization and from Indian culture into the artwork. The scenes are all very well-drawn too and this makes the scene rather challenging to play at times. The music is as equally brilliant here. Some of the tracks are even composed using traditional instruments.
Conclusion
In the hidden objects adventure genre, one doesn’t often come across games that are as unique as it is gripping, but Darkarta: A Broken Hearts Quest is definitely one of those few rare ones. The game doesn’t only offer a range of fresh and intriguing gameplay in the form of challenging puzzles and hidden object scenes; it’s storyline is engaging enough to hold your attention from start to end. It is a rare gem of a hidden object game indeed.
So, if you’re a fan of HO games and are out looking for something new, Darkarta: A Broken Hearts Quest might just fit the bill. Give the game a try!
