Summary

Enter the amazing Marvel Universe and discover a plot to kidnap the worlds heroes and brainwash them into destroying their home. This tactical game is full of action, story and the characters you love set against a stunning background and filled with depth and choice.

Plotline

A multidimensional being called Ultimus is traveling through the different earths capturing and controlling heroes and villains from across the Marvel Universe. Now he has set his sights on our earth, and you must step up as the commander of S.T.R.I.K.E force to stop them. By rescuing, making deals with or simply recruiting a variety of characters you go through an adventure mode full of action, adventure and adversaries to fight.

Gameplay

Once you enter the game Nick Fury will give you a mission brief, and 2 heroes with which to go and complete it. One of these will be a healer, the other a random hero from the game. Here on in you are able to see the various different options, both in and out of the battles and enter into the campaign mode. As you progress through each new feature will be briefly described and you can start to recruit new heroes.

Each hero has several different characteristics that add to their combat power. These are their skills, equipment and level. There are also ways to upgrade the quality of your heroes which will also increase their statistics. Each character has certain skills that will either damage, heal or control in the battles. They also have a unique role, such as Protector that soak up damage, or Brawler that dish out melee damage to your enemies.

Equipment is found when you complete each battle and these can then be given to your heroes to make them more powerful. When you have a full set of 6 items on them you can then upgrade the quality of the hero. This will make them tougher and more dangerous in a fight, and at higher ranks open up new skills. Finding items to equip is a pretty high priority and you may want to go back to upgrade your characters quickly to get the edge in the early stages of the game.

Then you get into the battles, these are turn based fights where you get to choose the action of your character, and the target. The aim of each contest is to defeat the enemy teams. Not only does your overall team power level count, but the individual skills can make a real difference. When to heal, or taunt is just as important as dealing out the damage. Each character acts based on their speed, and once you know the order you can really begin to use different tactics.

When you win a battle you are able to move on to the next stage, if you win with 3 stars you are also able to auto complete that battle and just claim the rewards without having to play it, a nice little tool for finding things you need. You will also get experience for your characters and your commander. This is important is it increases not only their level but yours. As your level increases you unlock more features and character slots.

There are several different types of currency in the game, and lots of things to collect. Each battle uses up energy, this recovers over time, is given at several points throughout the day and can be traded for too. There are also character shards, that when you have enough you can make or upgrade that character. There are orb shards that drop, opening an orb will give 3 different things, including items and shards, with different levels of orb available too. The most important item overall is your Power Cells, these are rewarded in lots of places and are a key element to recruiting the top heroes. They can also be purchased for real money if you wish, though you do get a lot as a free player too.

With a huge cast of heroes and villains and those in between you have a lot of people to choose from. The class system is well designed and the story is a lot of fun to play through. There are a lot of rewards as you play and lots of fun dialogue and witty one liners as the game progresses. There is a huge amount of depth to the game, with tactical decisions in and out of the battles, as well as a huge amount of ways to increase the power of your squads. Throw in the PvP arena and special challenges and you have a massive game waiting for you to play.

Community

Even though MARVEL Strike Force is a new game, it has a huge following already. With Reddit, Youtube and Twitch streams and posts it is incredibly popular. The Marvel Universe is much loved and really hot right now, and a good game was bound to attract attention. And it has, in a huge way. There are guilds in the game called Alliances, with lots of events for guilds to take part in too, so both in and out of game you have a massive community of very active players.

Graphics/Sound

This game is stunning, with 3D combat, amazing graphics throughout the game and a design that is flawless you have an epic view on your device. Specially made for the mobile market, and using the latest generation of software you have a brilliantly presented game. With every character having unique moves, including some well known abilities all played out in smoothly rendered environments it really is just mind blowingly good.

Conclusion

In its essence MARVEL Strike Force is not a new concept for a game. But as with everything marvel it is a very good version of this type of game. With its characters, story and design you have everything you could want. Add in a depth of gameplay, decision making and choice you have what amounts to one of the best games of the genre, and it’s only just begun it’s journey with a lot of content yet to come. A highly recommended game for either experienced or new players.
