Summary

From the company who made the popular and successful Solitaire Arena and Solitaire Knockout, Solitaire Live is another solitaire multiplayer game on their long list of solitaire games that allows you to pit the solitaire skills you’ve cultivated over the years against another player in real time! Enjoy playing 1-on-1 matches or participate in tournaments with up to 3 other players and see who the best solitaire player is. There are also boosters that you can use both for free, like undo, and also at a price, like the magic wand booster. Do you think you have what it takes to top the leaderboard in this fast-paced and challenging real-time solitaire game? Well, let’s find out by playing Solitaire Live, shall we?

Gameplay

Interestingly, the game starts off by asking whether you’ll be playing the game anonymously or you can share your Facebook info and play as yourself. This is rather unusual since most games do not give you this option. It’s a really nice touch, especially for those people who are shy online.

Once you’re in the game, Solitaire Live will guide you through 1 round of 1-on-1 match as well as a tournament to let you get a feel for the game and also learn the basic features of the game. As mentioned, there are 2 game modes in Solitaire Live - 1-on-1 matches and knockout tournaments. You can play 1-on-1 matches for any many times as you like per day and this is a great way to get a few games of solitaire in while you have some downtime between work assignments or even when you’re doing some important business in the loo.

For knockout tournaments, they will take up a bit more of your time as you’ll be competing with 3 other players in a dynamic real time event. In every round, the player in the last place will be instantly knocked out from the tournament, thus as long as you stay in the lead and you’ll be fine! To win the tournament and snag the grand prize though, you’ll need to get to the last round and defeat the last remaining opponent. Tournaments cannot be played consecutively since you’ll need to wait for its 12-minute cooldown period to expire before you can play in a tournament again.

In either 1-on-1 or tournaments, you’ll be playing a match against another player in real time, meaning that you can see your opponents’ foundation cards in real time and he can see yours. You and your opponent will also have the same shuffle. This means that both you and your opponent will get the same cards in the same order. To play, you’ll need to move your cards to your top foundations, starting with aces. Every card you managed to move to the foundation will nett you 1 score point. You will score an extra point if you send the same card before your opponent. Thus, speed is the key to winning the game!

Thankfully, the game provides a nifty auto-end button that when activated, will allow you send cards automatically to foundation. Do take note that once a card is sent to the foundation, you will not be able to retrieve it from the foundation. You can deactivate the function at any time though if you like, but I find the button immensely useful most of the time.

There are plenty of other cards that remain face-down in the game. To unlock these cards, you’ll need to stack up existing face-up cards in descending order and alternating colors. This means that if you have a Queen of Hearts, you can only place a Jack of Spades or Clubs and so on and so forth.

If you ran out of valid moves or are stuck, you can choose to end the game and wait for your opponent to end his game too in order to get your results. You can also use any of the various boosters available in the game. There’s a hint option that will show you if you have a match that you’ve missed while there’s also an undo button, which you can use for unlimited number of times throughout the game, to reverse a previous action. With the cost-free undo, you’ll never worry about a mistake again!

Besides hints and undos, you are also given some free magic wands. You can use these to magically unlock a face-down card that is ready to be used. Magic wands cost real cash though, but you’ll be able to obtain 1 free magic wand per day from the extras section of the game.

Being as competitive as you are, you mustn’t forget to compare the number of tournaments that you’ve won on the various weekly leaderboards, namely friends, national and global, to see how well you are doing!

Community

Although Solitaire Live is a pretty recently released game, the community in the game is pretty strong (for a niche game that is). The game has around 20 thousand players online at peak hours, so you’ll never need to wait too long for the game to find you an opponent to play solitaire with. The game itself also has around 75 thousand likes on its Facebook fan page... which is, honestly, no small feat for a solitaire game, even a competitive one at that!

Graphics/ Sound

Solitaire Live is a very simple and plain-looking solitaire game and hence, you are not provided with much customization options, such as for the patterns on your cards or for the background. Every piece of image in the game works its role well in the game and that’s what matters in this game. The game does not contain any music or sound, besides the occasional sound effects.

Conclusion

In summary, Solitaire Live is an exciting and competitive solitaire game whereby you’ll be playing against other human players in real-time in various 1-on-1 matches and even elimination-based tournaments. Earn as many points as you can to stay in the lead and you’ll not be knocked out from the tournaments. If you’re good enough, you might even stand a chance to earn the grand prize. The game also offers various helpful boosters, such as undo, hint and magic wand, that will be able to help you if you need that extra something to defeat your opponent. So, are you up to the challenge? Play Solitaire Live now and find out!
