Plotline
Once upon a time in the realm in Solitaire Story, a little blue dragon saw an evil witch brewing some sort of a concoction... possibly something that will devastate the serenity of the lands. Since he was the only one who knows about the witch’s plan, he decided to challenge himself to stop her. The journey will be long and arduous and he will need every help that he can get! Would you help?
Gameplay
To start playing, you’ll first need to know how online solitaire games work. In Solitaire Story (or any solitaire like it), you’ll need to achieve the target objective in every level by clearing cards from the board in ascending or descending numerical order. For example, if you have an Ace (the ‘A’ card) on your foundation, which is the place right beside your deck of cards, you can then collect a King or a 2 card from the board. The color or suits of the cards doesn’t matter in this game… just the values! The level objective usually involve collecting all the witch cards from the board and this also means that you don’t have to collect all the cards from the board, to complete a level.
When there are no more cards to match, you’ll then need to click on the deck to turn over a new card. However, do take note that there is limited number of cards in the deck. When you’re down to 0 and the game has yet to be completed, you’ll fail the level and lose a life. You will start with a maximum of 6 lives, but don’t worry! Your lives will regenerate by itself over time. On the other hand, if you have leftover cards in your deck, the game will automatically cash them in for bonus points for you and you can clap your hands in glee as your score overtake all your friends’ high scores for that level!
Furthermore, you should also try to get a chain of combos up by clearing at least 5 cards in a row. Each combo you make will crack the surprise egg on the bottom right corner of the screen by a little bit. However, once the egg shell is completely cracked, you’ll get a special prize consisting of an extra free joker card (surprise joker) or more cards added to the deck! What are joker cards, you may wonder? Well, they can be used somewhat like an UNO wild card whereby after the joker card is placed on the foundation, you can then choose any card you like from the board or from your deck to become your new foundation card. You’ll get 1 joker card for free in each level and it can be played at any time during the game.
Although it is convenient, it is not advisable to use this card. This is because the Joker card, which is worth 1000 points in this game, will become worthless after being played. In other words, you’ll be losing out on a whopping 1000 points! Therefore, please bear in mind that you should only use the Joker card a last resort! The game also provides unique cards to spice up your gameplay, such as the “lock and key” cards or the cloud cards. These cards do make the game a lot more challenging!
Moreover, in Solitaire Story, you can earn up to 3 stars per level and from experience, it is rather easy to get 3 stars, for the starting levels at least, in this game. Eventually you’ll reach a point in the game where you’ll need to go on to the next stage. This is where you’ll need your friends to help you out! There are a total of 350 levels in Solitaire Story with more levels added every few weeks, so you needn’t worry about running out of games soon!
If there are any levels that you find tough to complete, well, Solitaire Story also offers a range of power-ups for you to purchase. Some power-ups, like +5 Cards or Extra Joker, cost in-game money and can only be bought before entering a game. The other power-ups, such as shuffler, claw, magic wand and flame, can be bought while you’re playing. The shuffler deals a new set of cards to you while the claw can be used to clear any card you choose. The magic wand is able to change the number on a card into a needed number. On the other hand, the flame is able to burn any card away! Besides power-ups, which are admittedly quite expensive to buy, there is also a much cheaper alternative – the undo option! It costs only 50 gold to undo a move!
If these power-ups are still not enough, you can always drop by the cash shop and buy, using real money, some of these much superior and in most cases, much more permanent power-ups and boosts, such as +3 max life, +30% bonus score, double coins, 1 free undo permanently for every level, highlight all possible moves, card flip to reveal all face down cards on the board and many more!
Community
The community at Solitaire Story is pretty huge, especially considering that it was just released less than 4 months ago and that this game is a niche-sort of game - There are almost 41 thousand likes on its Facebook page! If you need friends to play the game with, well, the fan page is a great place to start your search. The page also occasionally posts events and games for players as well! So, be sure to like or follow the page for more goodies!
Graphics/ Sound
The background graphics in Solitaire Story are very nice to look at and they do bring out the whitish-colored cards a lot better. The cards themselves may look a tad bit plain, but they are all well-polished. The music in this game is pretty catchy and upbeat. If any music can be called “adorable”, this would be one of them!
Conclusion
Solitaire Story is a fun and easy-going Solitaire game that casual gamers would love! It may seem like any other solitaire game out there, but Solitaire Story brings quite an amount of uniqueness to the classic gameplay in the form of its in-game power-ups and card combo system. The game is also not too tough to the point where you’ll be hardly able to get by after you reached the level 10 milestone! Even if it’s too tough for you (especially the much later levels), there are plenty of power-ups that you can buy using in-game money too! All in all, if you love Solitaire Tales, then you’ll absolutely adore Solitaire Story! Play it now!
