Gameplay
Without further ado, the game sends you straight into your first match-3 puzzle in Water Splash! There, you’ll be introduced to the basics of the game as well as to the many different types of water balloons!
Like any other match-3 game, the controls are simple. Swipe balloons around to match 3 or more adjacent balloons of the same color together to pop them. For match-4s, you will get a line balloon, which will clear an entire row or column with a splash when matched, as well as a bonus line splash – whether the line is horizontal (row) or vertical (column) depends on which direction you swipe the balloon from to make the match. On the other hand, for match-5s in a T- or L-shape, you will earn a bonus cross line splash and a special cross balloon which will take out both its row and column of water balloons.
However, if the match-5 is linear in form, you’ll earn a color balloon and a bonus color blast instead. The color blast will take out all the balloons of the same color on the board and the color balloon will do the same after you swap it with any balloon nearby. Besides getting these special balloons, you will also earn some bonus score points. You can even mix special balloons together for a much more powerful splash than a single special balloon can do. For instance, by mixing a line and a cross balloon, you can create a bigger splash that will clear several rows and columns of water balloons from the board! Awesome, right? Each level contains up to 3 stars for you to earn, though you just need to get at least 1 star to unlock the next level. The level goals in Water Splash are really easy to achieve though, so don’t worry about not getting 3 stars – it is almost impossible not to get 3 stars if you are good enough in match-3 games. The most basic levels in Water Splash require you to reach a target score with the limited moves that you are given. However, as you progress in the game, you’ll encounter certain special items that will kick up the game’s difficulty up a notch. For example, there are levels that contain soil patches that you’ll need to remove by matching balloons over them.
There are also other level types that are typical in most match-3 games such as bringing the rubber duck down to the bottom in order to collect it by clearing balloons below it. There is even a boss fight whereby you’ll have to collect specifically-colored balloons to defeat the greedy Croker the Crocodile! Since the game provides you with limited moves to complete a level, if you run out of moves, you’ll fail the level and lose a life. You can easily get more lives by waiting patiently for it to recharge or ask for more lives from your friends. You can even spend real money to buy more lives!
However, if you somehow managed to hit the objective and still have plenty of leftover moves, well, the extra moves will be used up in a splash shower. During splash shower, randomly selected water balloons will be changed into special ones, earning you around 3 thousand bonus points each, and then the balloons are all activated. After clearing all the levels in a stage, you will earn a “brownie badge” that will be kept in your badge book. In order to unlocked the next stage, you’ll need to have 3 friends’ help, thus it’ll be great to have dedicated friends who play Water Splash with you. There are many stages in this game – a total of 33 stages (and 490 levels) in fact – with themes that range from river side hometown to forest water wheel and from crescent lake to Venice.
To ramp the game’s difficulty, you will be introduced to the plenty of obstacles or blockers in Water Splash. One example includes rocks. Rocks usually appear on top of soil patches and you can easily break them by making matches near to them. If the game eventually proves to be too much of a challenge for you, there are plenty of boosts that you can buy using in-game money or real life money to help you complete the level. There are 2 types of boosts generally – one of which can be purchased before you enter a game, such as adding special balloons onto your layout once you booted up a new level to play, and the other can only be bought during a game. There is also a boost called “bonus moves”, which will add 3 more moves to your movement limit that you can obtain by asking your Water Splash friends for it.
The boosts that can be bought during a game, is perhaps the most interesting ones. They include darts, which you can use to burst any piece of water balloon on the board, toy shovels that allow you to switch the places of 2 balloons, color balloon, which will pop all the same colored balloons as the balloon it is placed on and many more! Every new player in Water Splash are given 3 free boosts each and it is up to you to save them up for the later and much difficult levels.
