Gameplay
If you’re an avid time management player, then the first thing you’ll notice is how different the gameplay in Cooking Craze is. The gameplay is a whole lot simpler than what you’d expect from a game from this genre mainly because all you need to do is to tap on the foodstuff to “prepare” them and tap again to serve. There is no dragging and dropping involved! Even the coins that the customers left you are automatically collected – isn’t that convenient?
Interestingly, the game also has a combo system in place. How does it work? Well, it depends on how fast you can serve up each food item your customer wants consecutively. It can be pretty tricky to get a high combo multiplier going, but if you managed to pull off a couple of combo streaks, you should be able to clear a level easy-peasy!
Of course, like any cooking-themed time management game, the customers will each have their own patience levels and it’s best to serve them their food before their patience dropped too low. There are multiple ways you can keep a customer happy. You can serve them special goodies like candies or cupcakes to either slow down the drop in their patience level or bring up their patience level back to full.
Not to mention, Cooking Craze has various game modes that you’ll eventually encounter as you progress through the levels. Some require you to serve a limited number of customers within the opening hours of your shop, while others allow you to serve as many customers as you can within a specified time limit. There is also a game mode where you need to ensure that none of your customers have a patience level below the mid-point in order to get their “like”. You’ll need to collect enough likes to complete the level.
For every level you complete, you’ll get some coins, spoons (premium currency) and a comment card. However, since each level has 3 tiers, sometimes, the comment card can only be earned after you complete the second or third tiers. Comment cards are crucial in this game since they are needed to unlock new levels and locations. This also means that you’ll at least be required to backtrack and replay certain levels just so you’ll have enough cards to proceed. In the later levels, you will also be given a bonus objective, such as “no burnt food”, “no binned food” or “no customers walking out”. Completing bonus objectives will give you extra rewards. Sometimes, you will be given the option to view a video ad to double the coins you’ve earned too.
Now, to complete any of the later levels, you’ll definitely need to invest the money you’ve made into various food and equipment upgrades. Food upgrades will increase your profit margin per food item you sell, while equipment upgrades will expand the preparation area and reduce the preparation time needed. It is also interesting to note that there isn’t a way for you to upgrade your shop though since you will already have power-ups like candies and cupcakes to use. However, when you ran out, you may need to spend your accumulated premium cash to buy more.
Another unique feature to note is the game’s “lives” system. Lives will only be lost whenever you failed a level, though they will regenerate on their own over time. In some way, this system is designed to prevent players from blazing through large parts of the game in a single game session, but if you’re good enough, you can still play for quite a while before you’ll bump into the tougher levels and will start losing lives. Lives can also be obtained as gifts from friends, so be sure to add some!
Being a free-to-play game, Cooking Craze provides players with an in-app store that sells spoons for real cash and a variety of boosters in exchange for spoons. There are many types of boosts, including the one that adds more time to your shop’s opening hours; adds more customers, instantly cooks a dish of your choice, burn-proof your foodstuff and more. You can get some boosts for free when you reach certain level milestones. You can get free spoons by obtaining achievements as well!

By connecting Cooking Craze to your Facebook account, you’ll not only get yourself a one-time gift from the game; you’ll also be able to compare your high scores with your friends. Of course, as mentioned, adding friends in this game can be very beneficial as well since you can gift each other lives just so you can play this game for more hours in a sitting.
Graphics/ Sound
Cooking Craze features a rather catchy soundtrack that does brings out the fun in the game. I particularly enjoy the little nuances added to each customer you get. For instance, the violinist character will pull out his violin and play it whenever you complete his order. It’s also nice to note that the game doesn’t skimp on the variation in its visuals – it provides different graphics for different level of food and equipment upgrades.
Conclusion
All in all, Cooking Craze is a very addictive and enjoyable, time management game that stands out from among other similar games mainly because of its simplicity (in terms of controls) and the well-implemented combo system which, admittedly, is not at all unique but is still pretty rare in a time management game. If you love playing a time management game that will not get your finger or hand muscles all cramped up, then Cooking Craze is a game you should check out!
