Gameplay

Developed by Nordcurrent, Cooking Fever is an incredibly addictive and enjoyable time management game where you get to prepare a variety of dishes from a wide range of cultures. Although you’ll start off with the simpler recipes every time you start a new location, the recipes will gradually become more complex, forcing you to really put some thought in deciding which task should your character perform first.

Thankfully, the controls in this game is pretty straightforward and simple to grasp. There’s no need for you to mimic chopping up veggies or stir frying some onions by moving your device around. All you need to do is to drag and drop the ingredients onto the cooking/preparing station of choice. You’ll also repeat the same motions to combine cooked items together to make a complete dish.

With so many ingredients to prepare, side-dishes to cook and meals to dish out, your time management skills will definitely be pushed to its limits. So, it’s wise to start preparing as many ingredients as you can once a level starts. Oh, and be careful not to overcook your ingredients or you will have to throw it away.

Each location in this game offers around 40 nail-biting levels where you’ll need to serve as many customers as you can, but unlike most time management games, you are given a limited number of customers rather than a limited time. Each level, in turn, will provide up to 3 stars for you to earn. You may find it hard to get a 3-star rating at the first go, so naturally (and especially if you happen to be a perfectionist), you’ll be expected to replay levels to not only earn more money but also to get a perfect rating on every level you’ve played.

Now, when it comes to game cash, they can be in pretty short supply in this game due to the fact that there are just so many upgrades that you can buy! Upgrades are separated into 2 categories in Cooking Fever, namely kitchen and interior upgrades. Kitchen upgrades are improvements that will help you become a better chef either by unlocking a new stove, cutting down on the cooking duration or even increasing the selling value of a certain ingredient.

Interior upgrades, on the other hand, focus more on the customers who frequent your restaurant. They help by making your customers happier, which equates to higher tips, and more willing to wait for just a taste of your heavenly dishes. However, do take note that although some upgrades require gems (premium currency), you are not forced to buy all the upgrades. Some you can do without. In fact, here’s a tip – minimize your gems spending on kitchen and interior upgrades. Instead, save up these gems to buy up new restaurants!

Talking about restaurants, there are 12 different restaurants you can unlock in Cooking Fever. Starting from a simple Fast Food Court where you’ll be serving hot dogs and burgers, you’ll be able to eventually unlock new locations, such as the bakery, Chinese restaurant, pizzeria, sports bar, and seafood bistro, as well as more cuisines to master. Each new location can be pretty costly to buy though, so you’ll be pretty hard pressed when deciding to spend your earnings on upgrades or on a new restaurant.

That said, there are several alternative ways you can earn some easy cash. One of which is by completing your daily rooster of tasks. You could also get some coins by completing achievements or completing ad offers. If you’re feeling lucky, you could also spend your coins at the casino – you may just double or even triple your earnings within minutes!

You’ve unlocked all restaurants and upgrades, and essentially have nothing else to do except repeat levels in hopes of getting a 3-star? Well, let’s not despair just yet! The game also provides fun Cooking Fever tournaments specially for their higher-level players where chefs will compete with each other in hopes of winning a huge stack of gems. To participate, you simply need to complete as many levels in a row as you can. To win though, that’ll take a lot more effort.

Community

Cooking Fever is very well-received among mobile users and this has actually contributed to its rise to popularity. The game also has, surprisingly, multiple fan pages on Facebook which Nordcurrent uses to inform their players of their latest game updates and events. If you are looking for tips and hints, as well as to connect with other players in the game, the fan pages are the best places for you to do so.

Graphics/ Sound

The game has astonishingly detailed graphics, and if you were to stare at the dishes you serve up long enough, your brain may even be fooled into believing that you could almost smell the virtual food in front of you. The music in Cooking Fever is very well-done too, but I can’t say that I’m not disappointed that the game doesn’t provide a different music to match their respective restaurants whenever you enter one. This would be a pretty nice feature to have.

Conclusion

All in all, Cooking Fever is not only an insanely fun, restaurant-themed, time management game, it is also a game that’s fair to its players. The game offers plenty of variety when it comes to the types of restaurants and cuisines as well as upgrades, spicing up the gameplay by quite a bit. So... is that rumbling noise coming from your tummy? Well, wait no more - Play Cooking Fever now and start enjoy cooking a variety of virtual dishes today!
