Summary
Fresh from his successful case of the haunted island, you’ll get to join the Frog Detective yet again as he travels to a remote village called Warlock Woods to investigate the curious case of the destroyed welcome parade in this exciting and highly-anticipated sequel! The game is hilarious, in a lighthearted way, down to its core, with puns and jokes galore; and it’s designed to be child-friendly as well (clean jokes and easy gameplay).
Plotline
The Frog Detective is at it again! This time, he’s sent to the remote village of Warlock Woods where something terrible has happened… someone or something has ruined a welcome parade organized specially to welcome the newest resident of the village, a shy and invisible wizard who’s aptly named as the Invisible Wizard.
Without spoiling the story too much, let’s just say that you’ll need to interrogate everyone in the village, help them with their troubles, and maybe you might find out who’s the real culprit behind this horrible crime!
Gameplay
Frog Detective 2: The Case of the Invisible Wizard plays out like a point-and-click adventure that’s a bit more dialogue-heavy. The game will require you to talk to the various animal inhabitants of Warlock Woods, and collect clues as to why they may be a culprit; their motivations, if there are any, to destroy the welcome parade.
As a detective, you’ll have your trusty magnifying glass which you’ll need to use to be able to interact with certain items, specifically items that you can pick up like random pies and a pair of dropped glasses. You’ll also have your notebook where you’ll jot down all the important details of your every conversation as well as to keep track of your inventory.
The game is fairly short though and you’ll be able to crack the case really quickly. However, I should point out that solving the case doesn’t mean that you’ll be getting all the achievements. There are some extra stuff you’ve got to do to earn the remaining 3 achievements.
Oh, and a quick tip if you will, if you do play until the end, make sure you stick around for the after-credit scenes. There’s a little preview of the next sequel with a Hollywood-worthy cliffhanger!
Community
Frog Detective 2 is a single-player experience and is a fairly straightforward mystery adventure so there aren’t exactly any alternative theories to discuss about. However, if you enjoy meeting up with your fellow players, you might want to check out the game’s Steam discussion boards.
Graphics/ Sound
Frog Detective 2 is designed to be approachable to both kids and adults. Hence, know that the graphics are designed to intentionally look somewhat childish. The 80s-style detective music in the background fits so perfectly with the theme, and for some reason, it sounds so similar to the music I’ve heard while playing one of Roblox’s detective-themed Egg Hunt events.
Conclusion
Frog Detective 2: The Case of the Invisible Wizard is one of those rare games that somehow managed to bridge the gap between being a children’s game and an adult one. Yes, the game may look like a kids’ game and it plays like one too, but the jokes and puns appeal to players of all ages, making it the perfect game for the family. Not to mention, the frog detective is just such a loveable character. He’s not the best detective there is – Lobster Cop is – but he’s fine with it and that’s okay!
