Gameplay
Upon starting the Infernals - Heroes of Hell you will go straight into the action as you are watching a team of heroes fight. In this mini tutorial you will be shown how to manage the combat, and afterwards you will receive a few quests and hints to show you around. You will also get your first 2 heroes and be able to go and collect a third.
The main aim of the game is to create a team of heroes that fight for you, using characters that you find in the game. The battles take place in real time, and using teams of up to 5 characters, split into different classes. These characters have skills and basic attacks and go in initiative order. You can choose which skill to use next and this determines the outcome of the battle. The actual attacks and order are all run by the game and you will need to defeat all of the opponents in front of you to win.
The 5 classes of heroes are: Defenders, Attackers, Occultists, Supporters and Hybrids. Each has their own speciality and a mix of different classes can make for a good party, However you can change characters before each battle to suit what you need. There are also 6 factions in the game: Nature, Human, Vampire, Corrupted, Undead and Demon. These determine the style of abilities used and where you they fit into the story.
Your heroes can will gain experience when they complete a battle, and they have a maximum level based on their rank. The stars rank goes from one to 6 and the more stars the better the skills and abilities. You can upgrade an existing characters stars by promoting them using Skulls. This will make them more powerful and give them a higher level cap and more abilities. There are other upgrades available to the power level of each character too.
As well as experience many of the levels have different rewards, such as scrolls to summon new champions, items for your heroes called Relics, Gold and Emeralds. Relics are added to your characters and do a variety of different things based on what type, such as more damage or more armor. Gold is used to upgrade these relics as well as can be spent on new ones.
Emeralds have a variety of uses, from buying heroes to upgrading them and they can be found through quests, adventure’s or purchased for real money. There are also several other things you can buy that will enhance your characters and give you more power throughout different phases of the Infernals - Heroes of Hell.
There are 2 main types of battle you can take part in: Adventures and the Fighting Pit. Adventures are a series of levels against the computer and allow you to level your heroes, test tactics and skills and they also have their own rewards. Each level you play will cost 1 Crimson Potion. You have a fixed amount of 20, but there are many ways to collect them and they refresh back up to 20 over time.
The Fighting Pit is a player vs Player arena. You play your team against another person's Defence. If you win you gain ranking points and some gold but if you lose you will lose some ranking points. The more ranking points the higher your bracket and the better the rewards are at the end of the week.
Players can also join up to play together into a Clan, these are groups of up to 50 players that work together and they can even take part in Clan vs Clan battles with some really good rewards. Joining a clan is easy and there are lots of them active. THey also track your progress towards helping them out too.
The interface is really easy to use and you only need the mouse. In combat you can choose the skill to use easily by simply clicking it. The pattern of your heroes and what you choose is where the depth of the game lies. There are a variety of strategies you can use, but if another player or the monster team has a much higher level character you may begin to struggle. The power level of characters is a huge factor in the win / loss rates for PVP.
Community
There is a large community surrounding Infernals - Heroes of Hell is quite large, there are lots of clans and players active in the game. There is also a Facebook page and dedicated forums and Reddit pages. Though relatively new as it is a game from Goodgame Studios there is quite a buzz for it already.
Graphics/Sound
The unique attack animations for each of the heroes adds some nice flavour to what would otherwise be a slightly dull looking game. The out of battle graphics are simple and lack any real depth or definition. The characters are well drawn and you can easily identify them in and out of combat.
Conclusion
Infernals - Heroes of Hell has a lot of different things that you can do, and there are a quite a few heroes for you to collect. However leveling up characters to their maximum stars can be time consuming and as a new game there are not that many new levels or adventures to be had. There are updates planned and there is a good player base but there is a little something lacking when you play.
For a cross platform strategy RPG there is a lot going for it, and there should be more content coming soon to make it a more full game. The PvP ladder can be the most fun but if someone has more time to invest in their characters it can really show at the higher end. Overall this is a decent game that needs a bit of time to settle in properly.
